Our approach is not only where to plug what in, or what this knob and that button actually do, but how to use the gear to shape the sound into the most pleasant mix. We take a “less is more” approach, keep it simple, and break it down into easy to understand concepts that will make sense to even the newest of volunteers.
MIXING WITH A MUSICAL EAR
It takes more than technical knowledge to be a great audio engineer. You must listen to the music and understand how it should sound so you can have a clear goal for your mix. It may take time to learn and develop your ear, but not mixing your band while listening through a musical ear is missing the bigger picture of running sound.
CUSTOMER SERVICE ATTITUDE
Having the right attitude makes all the difference when you get behind the board. It is your goal to try to make the musicians comfortable and the congregation engaged. Try to fulfill the never ending monitor mix change requests, additions or changes to your input list (yes, even last minute), and anticipate as much as you can. We are all on the same team, but too many engineers easily forget.
